The District and County Courts at Law maintain five public appointment lists (Trial/Appellate A for first/second-degree felonies; B for third-degree/state-jail; C for misdemeanors; Capital; Juvenile). Attorneys file a sworn application to be placed on one or more lists; the Board of Judges approves lists annually. Each defendant is magistrated within 48 hours (CCP art. 15.17); appointment requests are transmitted to the appointing authority within 24 hours.
