The district board shall have power to fix the amount of compensation per meeting to be paid each member of the board for his or her services for each meeting attended by him or her; provided, that the compensation shall not exceed ten dollars ($10) for each meeting of the district board attended by him or her, together with expenses necessarily incurred by him or her in traveling between his or her place of residence and the place of meeting.
