Chief Judge — Sixth District Court of Appeal
Judge Traver grew up outside Chicago, Illinois, and he attended college at Cornell University. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Law & Society. At Cornell, he was a Division I athlete all four years, competing in Varsity Track and Cross Country. He graduated with honors from law school at Loyola University Chicago, where he was a member of Loyola’s Law Journal.
After graduation, Judge Traver moved to Orlando and clerked for The Honorable G. Kendall Sharp, a Senior United States District Court Judge. Following a year in private practice in Chicago, he returned to Orlando and joined a state-wide commercial law firm, where he spent nearly a decade practicing complex commercial litigation at the firm’s flagship office. Over that time, he progressed from junior associate to equity shareholder. His practice encompassed contract, fraud and real estate disputes, bank litigation and professional malpractice cases. He appeared in state, federal, bankruptcy, and juvenile court.
In 2014, Governor Rick Scott appointed Judge Traver as a circuit judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit, and the citizens of Orange and Osceola Counties re-elected him to that position in 2016. He served in the family/domestic violence, criminal felony, and complex business divisions. Judge Traver has been active in statewide court education, teaching other judges about domestic violence hearings as part of the Florida Institute on Interpersonal Violence.
In 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Traver to the Fifth District Court of Appeal. When the Sixth District Court of Appeal was created in 2023, Governor DeSantis recommissioned him to this Court.
