Judge — Sixth District Court of Appeal
Judge Joshua A. Mize joined the Sixth District Court of Appeal on January 1, 2023, following his appointment by Governor Ron DeSantis.
Judge Mize received his undergraduate degrees in History and Finance from the University of Florida. Judge Mize then attended the University of Florida College of Law, graduating magna cum laude in the top 2% of his class. During law school, Judge Mize served as an editor of the Florida Law Review. Upon graduation, Judge Mize was inducted into the Order of the Coif based on academic achievement.
Judge Mize began his legal career in private practice with a prominent law firm in Tampa. Judge Mize subsequently practiced law at two national law firms, as well as his own law firm, litigating complex commercial disputes, intellectual property disputes and consumer protection cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
In February 2021, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Mize as a Circuit Judge on the Ninth Judicial Circuit, and the citizens of Orange and Osceola Counties elected him to retain that position in 2022.
Since July 2024, Judge Mize has served as the Associate Dean for the New Appellate Judges Program in the Florida Judicial College. In that position, he directs the education program that all new appellate judges in Florida must complete upon their appointment.
