Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Paetra T. Brownlee to the Sixth District Court of Appeal in July 2023.
Judge Brownlee was raised in Orlando, Florida. After high school, she attended Emory University, where she played Varsity Volleyball and earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and a minor in French Studies. Judge Brownlee received her juris doctorate from Florida State University College of Law, where she completed the College of Law’s certificate program in International Law, with honors.
After law school, Judge Brownlee returned to Orlando and began her legal career at a boutique appellate litigation law firm, where she had the opportunity to argue cases at the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and throughout Florida’s district courts of appeal. In May of 2020, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Brownlee to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, where she served until her appointment to the Sixth District Court of Appeal.
Judge Brownlee is a member of the Appellate Practice Section of the Florida Bar, the Orange County Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Committee, the George C. Young American Inn of Court, and the Federalist Society. Judge Brownlee has served on the Judicial Nominating Commissions for both the Ninth Judicial Circuit and the Fifth District Court of Appeal.
