HEARING TIME & ARGUMENT LIMITS • ZOOM AND IN-PERSON COURTROOM BEHAVIOR RULES GENERAL RULES FOR ALL IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL COURT APPEARANCES You must be dressed in proper courtroom attire—no pajamas, sunglasses, shorts, flip-flops, hats, etc. No eating, smoking, vaping, chewing gum Minor children are NOT permitted to attend or be present in the room where any participant is attending court. Litigants must ensure they are not exposed to the proceedings. Turn off electronic devices unless you have court permission to use them while you are testifying. You may not talk, text, or email with anyone during court. If an objection is made, you must stop talking so the court can rule on the objection. Appear for your hearing 15 minutes early. Answer questions directly and succinctly, without rambling or going off-topic. Don’t cover your mouth when you are testifying. Speak clearly, no mumbling. Don’t interrupt or make facial expressions, gestures, outbursts, or noises (such as sighing, shaking your head, rolling your eyes, etc.) when someone else is talking—it’s a given that you don’t agree with the other side. You do not need to remind the court every time someone says something with which you disagree. Do not address others using first names during court proceedings. If the RULE OF SEQUESTRATION in invoked, you MAY NOT discuss the case with anyone (except your attorney when no other witnesses are present) until the case is over or the court gives you permission.
