97th Judicial District Court Local Rules (filed Jan. 10, 2023; Archer, Clay and Montague Counties). Title 1 — General Rules Governing All Proceedings. Rule 1, Conduct and Courtroom Decorum: all persons with business before the Court shall be prompt and conduct themselves with dignity; no one may sit on railings, tables, desks or chair arms or put feet on furniture; no gestures, facial expressions or sounds indicating approval or disapproval of any ruling, person or conduct; no eating, drinking, smoking, tobacco, gum or newspapers in the courtroom; pagers, beepers and cellphones must be turned off (silent-vibrate permitted), and failure may result in contempt, a fine, or confiscation; absent medical necessity or religious observance, no hats, bandanas or other headgear, shorts, bare midriffs, tank tops, or tattered or dirty clothing; outbursts, disturbances, threats, obscene language or gestures are never permitted and may result in expulsion or contempt; and counsel must instruct parties and witnesses not to contact the Judge about pending matters and to observe appropriate courtroom conduct.
