In the District Courts of Coryell County — Administrative Standing Order, Assignment of Courts and Division of Criminal Cases. This is an administrative standing order of the District Courts of Coryell County that applies in all criminal cases filed with the District Clerk of Coryell County; subject to the Rules of Court of the 52nd Judicial District, the 52nd Judicial District Court and the 440th Judicial District Court of Coryell County approve this standing order on the assignment of criminal cases. IT IS ORDERED: each District Court may impanel a Grand Jury during each of the Courts' terms (January and July), and all returned indictments shall be randomly assigned among the District Courts. All causes filed with the District Clerk by indictments returned by the Grand Jury, or by information filed by the prosecution authority, will be randomly assigned and distributed among the District Courts based on the newest SID# assigned to the defendant: defendants whose final number in the SID sequence is 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 are assigned to the 52nd District Court, and defendants whose final SID number is 6, 7, 8, 9, or 0 are assigned to the 440th District Court, subject to: (1) any subsequent cause is assigned to the same Court with a defendant's pending cause, and (2) causes with co-defendants involving the same transaction are assigned to the 440th District Court. All charging instruments shall include the defendant's SID number, date of birth/TRN number, complaint number, statute and citation, assigned prosecutor, retained or appointed defense attorney, and the designated Court. Nothing prevents judges from exchanging benches, sitting for another judge, or transferring causes between themselves when allowed by law.
