The local rules of the Fayette County Constitutional Court (County Court), adopted by the County Judge under Texas Government Code section 21.001, governing construction, appropriate dress and behavior, and the conduct of the Court’s business under Chapter 26 of the Government Code.

Fayette County Texas Constitutional Court Local Rules. Rule 1, Objective: the County Judge of Fayette County, under the authority of Texas Government Code section 21.001, adopts these rules as guidance to the Court and parties to facilitate the Court’s duties under Chapter 26 of the Government Code; the County Clerk assures each party is provided a copy or referred to an on-line publication, and attorneys assure their clients are familiar with the rules. Rule 2, Construction: the rules are construed in conformance with and subordinate to the Texas Constitution, the Civil Practice & Remedies Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Government Code, the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and other applicable statutory law. Rule 3, Appropriate Dress: parties are expected to dress appropriately (dress pants or nice jeans, collared shirt or business blouse, suit or sport coat, dress; tie optional but required for attorneys), with a relaxed dress code during the high-temperature months of June through October (jackets and ties not required; open-collar Guayabera-style shirts permitted); inappropriate clothing includes torn jeans, shorts, sweat/yoga pants, t-shirts or sleeveless shirts, saggy pants, hoodies, flip flops, hats/caps, and shirts with offensive markings, and the Judge may respond to inappropriate dress by verbal admonishment, postponement, or contempt under Government Code section 21.002. Rule 4, Appropriate Behavior: parties are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the Court’s dignity.
