487TH DISTRICT COURT MEDIA POLICY NO PERSON, OTHER THAN THE COURT REPORTER, MAY RECORD A COURT PROCEEDING WITHOUT THE COURT’S PERMISSION. THIS PROHIBITION APPLIES TO ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC VIEWING COURT PROCEEDINGS ON THE COURT’S LIVE STREAM AND TO PERSONS WITH THE ABILITY TO RECORD ANY VIRTUAL COURT PROCEEDING. ANY PERSON FOUND TO BE IN VIOLATION OF THIS ORDER FACES CONTEMPT PROCEEDINGS, INCLUDING A FINE OF UP TO $500 AND A SENTENCE OF CONFINEMENT FOR UP TO SIX (6) MONTHS IN JAIL FOR EACH ACT OF CONTEMPT OF COURT. Visual Recording or Photography: The Court has the sole authority to permit any visual recording or photography of any court proceeding and such authorization is reserved only for credentialed media outlets. Any member of the media seeking to visually record or photograph a court proceeding must first, request permission from the Court, and must then receive express permission from the Court prior to commencing any visual recording or photography. Audio Recording: The Court, generally, does not permit any audio recordings of court proceedings. However, the Court reserves the right to allow credentialed media outlets to record opening statements and closing arguments during trial. Any member of the media seeking to record audio of a court proceeding must first, request permission from the Court, and then must receive express permission from the Court to record audio prior to commencing any recording. Requesting the Court Record: The Court will not release any portion of the court reporter’s records, including any exhibits, until the case is finally disposed of in the trial court.
