In contested original suits affecting the parent-child relationship and contested modifications, every person seeking to be appointed managing or possessory conservator, or seeking access to a child, must successfully complete an approved parenting program before final trial. A list of approved programs is available from the clerk; the order applies to all pro se parties; the filing lawyer gives the petitioner a copy and the clerk attaches the order to each citation and notice of hearing. The program must be completed no later than 30 days before trial with evidence of completion filed at least 21 days before trial. Failure may bar appointment as conservator or specific periods of possession and may draw sanctions, including contempt under Government Code section 21.002.
