Going to Court Remotely Butte County Superior Court transitioned to the CourtCall Remote Court Scheduler (RCS) platform after March 23, 2026, for all hearings in which a remote appearance is authorized. This platform replaces all prior remote‑appearance methods, including CourtCall Classic (telephonic) and Zoom. Through CourtCall RCS, registered participants receive a unique Microsoft Teams link to join the virtual courtroom when their case is called. Parties and attorneys who have judicial approval to appear remotely must self‑schedule their appearances through the CourtCall RCS platform. Remote appearances previously scheduled through Zoom during the transition period were migrated by the court, and updated Microsoft Teams links were issued to affected users. Before You Begin: Important Reminders Approval and noticing requirements have not changed and remain in effect where required by statute and the California Rules of Court, as outlined in Local Rule 1.10. Do not schedule a remote appearance until judicial approval has been granted, when required. If you are unsure whether your hearing requires judicial approval, review the department‑specific instructions for requesting a remote appearance in the Divisions section below. Before scheduling your remote appearance, users must visit the CA Courts Identity website and create an account. Once approved, parties or attorneys in a case can use the Remote Court Scheduler (RCS) website to schedule their remote appearance using their CA Courts Identity account. Remote appearances must be scheduled at least 16.5 hours before the hearing begins; for example, a participant may schedule until 4:00 p.m. the day before an 8:30 a.m. hearing, or until 9:00 p.m. the night before a 1:30 p.m. hearing. Non-parties to a case, such as agencies, witnesses, interpreters, etc., who wish to appear remotely will need to contact the appropriate case‑type division at the court for assistance with obtaining a remote appearance. Upon judicial approval, the court will schedule these appearances on an ad hoc basis. Once you receive a Teams link to join remotely via CourtCall, do not share your link. Teams’ links are uniquely created for each individual upon registration. If someone else uses your link before you join, you will be denied entry because the system does not allow duplicate logins. All rules of courtroom civility and decorum apply to all remote appearances. It is the sole responsibility of the party appearing remotely to ensure they have sufficient internet speed and/or reliable connectivity, as well as an appropriate location with no background noises or disruptions. Cancellations. If a remote appearance needs to be canceled, you can do so by visiting the RCS website. Canceling your remote appearance does not cancel the hearing. Failure to appear in person or remotely after canceling online will be treated as a no-show. Any recording of a remote appearance is strictly prohibited. Remote Appearances FAQs Do I schedule my own remote appearance, or can I contact the court so they can schedule it on my behalf? If you are a party on record in a case (individual, business entity, attorney), follow the instructions found on the Public User RAS Guide to create a Remote Court Scheduler (RCS) account and schedule the remote appearance yourself. For more information, please refer to the Public User RAS Guide. If you are not a party on record in a case (county/state/other public agency, hospital, victim, witness, interpreter, court reporter, etc.), call the courthouse and let them know the case number for which you need to appear. Be ready to provide a valid email address to receive the link to the remote hearing. Are remote appearances provided the same day as my hearing? No. Pursuant to the Court's Local Rules (1.10), advance notice and approval are required for remote appearances. Remote appearances will not be provided the same day as your hearing. Please ensure you have properly set up your remote appearance in advance of your hearing. My hearing is scheduled for a specific time. What time should I join? You should always join the CourtCall meeting no later than the allotted start time unless court staff has provided you with other instructions. A good practice would be to join 5 to 10 minutes early to ensure there aren’t any connectivity issues. My hearing was continued, or I have another future hearing set. Do I have to file an additional Notice/Request for a Remote Appearance form, or get a new meeting link? Yes, approval and notice are required for every hearing unless the judge explicitly approves it in open court. However, even if previously approved and noticing is no longer required, a new link to a CourtCall meeting is required for each new hearing. You will need to schedule yourself for a new remote appearance through the CourtCall platform. I’m having technical issues. Who can help me with that? The court is unable to troubleshoot technical issues regarding CourtCall. Please review the following guides for specific information: Public User RCS Guide / CourtCall Virtual Lobby User Guide / CourtCall Help Center If technical issues may delay or impact your appearance, contact the court immediately. Failure to appear may result in adverse consequences. How should I name myself when joining the meeting remotely? Please enter both your first and last name when joining the meeting. It is highly encouraged to also include your case number. If you have a profile picture preset to display in the meeting, ensure it does not display any offensive, harmful, or obscene images or contain anything that can be depicted as inappropriate or distracting by the court. I lost my link to the meeting. How do I get my meeting details again? If you are a party to the case and scheduled the remote appearance yourself, log into your Remote Court Scheduler (RCS) account to request a reminder email with the link. More information can be found in the Public User Guide. If you are not a party to the case, call the court and be ready to provide your name and case number to have the meeting link resent.
