387th Judicial District Court Guidelines for Appointments of Attorneys Ad Litem, Guardians Ad Litem, and Mediators 1. Attorney Ad Litem Minimum requirement for qualifying to serve as attorney ad litem a. At least 50% of the annual practice related to family law; b. Eight hours of continuing legal education in family law and three hours in ethics for the last reporting year; c. Attendance at an amicus/ad litem training seminar presented by the Fort Bend County Bar Association or other amicus/ad litem training CLE presented by the HBA or State Bar of Texas, or viewed the video of one of these live presentations; 2. Guardians Ad Litem Minimum requirement for qualifying to serve as guardian ad litem a. Attendance at an amicus/ad litem training seminar presented by the Fort Bend County Bar Association or other amicus/ad litem training CLE presented by the HBA or State Bar of Texas, or viewed the video of one of these live presentations. 3. Mediators Minimum requirement for qualifying to serve as mediator a. Completion of the requirements of the CPRC Section 154.052; b. Three hours of continuing legal education (CLE) in alternative dispute resolution for the last reporting year and at least one hour of CLE related to domestic violence; c. For appointments involving CPS, three hours of continuing legal education related to Texas Family Code Chapter 262 regarding protection of the child, or prior training and experience as a mediator in CPS cases.
