Where a defendant is arrested and charged with committing an offense punishable as a felony while released on bail in a pending case for another offense punishable as a felony pending in a district court of Galveston County, the following shall apply: The Magistrates' Court will provide the C.C.P. Art. 15.17 warnings and deny bail for any defendants needing bond set; the district court of jurisdiction will set bond the next business day. The defendant shall be brought before the appropriate district court judge, without unnecessary delay, but not later than 48 hours after the person is arrested or the morning of the next business day following a weekend or holiday. Any defendant arrested for a felony charge while currently released on bail for a pending felony in a district court may only be released on bail by the district court before whom the case for the previous offense is pending. For purposes of this Order, all the general jurisdiction district courts of Galveston County have concurrent jurisdiction. Effective July 12, 2022.
