LOCAL RULE – DISCOVERY, JUSTICE COURT, PRECINCT TWO OF TARRANT COUNTY, TEXAS (EFFECTIVE: July 1, 2015; REVISED: May 1, 2026). Discovery time periods and limitations generally followed by the Justice Courts: (I) "Pretrial Discovery Period – All discovery must be conducted during the discovery period," which begins when the judge signs an order approving the discovery request and concludes the earlier of a date set by the court or no later than 30 days before trial; (II) "Each party may have no more than six (6) hours in total to examine and cross-examine all witnesses in oral depositions"; (III) a party may serve no more than fifteen (15) written interrogatories, (IV) no more than fifteen (15) requests for production, and (V) no more than fifteen (15) requests for admissions, each discrete subpart counted separately. The rule is drawn in part from Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 192.3 and references TRCP 500.1(c), 500.2(l) and 500.8: any request for pretrial discovery must be presented to the court and is limited to that which the judge considers reasonable and necessary, and failure to comply with a discovery order can result in sanctions.
