A request for continuance must be submitted at least five (5) days prior to the scheduled court date for a hearing. Except for good cause shown, the motion must be signed by the party requesting the continuance, as required by Florida Rule of General Practice & Judicial Administration 2.545(e).

Florida follows the federal summary-judgment standard. The motion must be served at least 40 days before the hearing; the nonmovant's response is due no later than 20 days before the hearing.
