1 verbatim requirement on continuances in MELINDA BROWN's division.
Seventeenth Judicial Circuit (Broward County) — Division MA only. Divisional procedures change without notice; the division page controls. Procedural information only; not legal advice.
Motions for Continuance: must be submitted to the Court with an attached order at least two (2) days prior to the scheduled court date or Calendar Call. Counsel is required to confer with opposing counsel prior to filing a motion to continue and must state on the motion the results of the conferral. Only emergency written motions will be addressed thereafter. This applies to both defense counsel and state attorney requests. If a written continuance is granted, it is the filing attorney’s responsibility to notice the opposing counsel. If a written continuance is denied, the parties must appear at calendar call. Motions for continuance are highly discouraged once trial has been set and must be supported by good cause and documentation.
Reviewer note: Document sha256: 46bfe0c725a0b4f32c396818f7bb2954a4742dfa8018091518f98581e0a1af33. Corpus topic: CONTINUANCES. Published during the completeness pass — the audit found 2,753 verbatim requirements against 123 published rules. GOOGLE DOCS VEIN: 102 of the Seventeenth Circuit's 106 division procedure documents are published as Google Docs (docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-...), not as PDFs on the court's own host. Two consecutive fetches of the same Google Doc URL return DIFFERENT bytes — Google injects per-request session config — so the document_sha256 recorded here pins one render, not a stable identity, and content-hash change detection does not work on this vein. Re-verified live 2026-07-24 by text presence instead: six sampled documents still carried 100%, 100%, 100%, 91%, 100% and 100% of their published requirements.
10 verbatim courtroom requirements from Judge Margaret R. Taylor's published division procedures.
Judge Taylor (under the shared County Criminal Standing Pretrial Order): continuance motions for in-custody defendants must be filed at least 48 hours before the court date to cancel jail transport, and all pleas are in person absent a pre-approved plea in absentia.
