394TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT REMOTE COURT APPEARANCE ETIQUETTE To preserve the dignity and orderly administration of justice, all persons appearing before the 394th Judicial District Court by videoconference (including Zoom) shall conduct themselves as though they were physically present in the courtroom. All participants appearing remotely shall comply with the following requirements: Appearance • Dress in accordance with the Court's Standing Memorandum Regarding Courtroom Attire. • Appear well-groomed and appropriately dressed for court. • Sit upright at a table or desk whenever possible. Participants shall not appear while lying in bed or in any position inconsistent with the dignity of the proceedings. Environment • Appear from a quiet, private location free from unnecessary distractions. • Do not appear from a moving vehicle. If participating from a parked vehicle due to unavoidable circumstances, notify the Court before the hearing begins. • Ensure adequate lighting so your face is clearly visible. • Position the camera at eye level and remain visible throughout the proceeding unless excused by the Court. • Use a neutral, professional, or blurred virtual background if available. Backgrounds that are distracting, offensive, or inappropriate are prohibited. Conduct • Join the hearing a few minutes before the scheduled start time. • Mute your microphone until your case is called or you are asked to speak. • Speak clearly and do not interrupt others. • Silence cell phones and other electronic devices not being used for the hearing. • Give the Court your full attention. Do not conduct other business or engage in other activities while participating. • Children, pets, and other distractions should be kept out of the hearing area whenever possible. Recording • Recording, photographing, livestreaming, broadcasting, or otherwise reproducing any portion of the proceeding is strictly prohibited unless expressly authorized by the Court. Technical Issues • Participants are responsible for ensuring they have a reliable internet connection and a functioning camera and microphone prior to the hearing. • If technical difficulties occur, notify the Court Coordinator immediately by telephone or email using the contact information provided in the hearing notice. Enforcement Failure to comply with these requirements may result in removal from the remote proceeding, postponement of the hearing, or any other action the Court deems appropriate. This order shall be posted on the Court's website at www.Texas394th.com, and the district clerks of Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, and Presidio Counties are directed to file this Order with the Office of Court Administration and in the county administrative orders of the Court, and to post a file marked copy of this Order as a Public Notice at the County Courthouse.
