Local Rules of the District Courts (25th and 2nd 25th Judicial Districts) governing Colorado, Gonzales and Lavaca Counties (updated May 2024). CHAPTER 1 — GENERAL ORGANIZATION AND DEFINITIONS: except when superseded by emergency orders and procedures, these rules govern the procedures in the District Courts hearing civil, family and criminal cases. 1.1 Central Jury Docket for Criminal Cases: all criminal jury trials are set through a central docketing system run by a Court Administrator designated by a majority vote of the district judges; once a jury-trial request is made, the Court Administrator provides a trial date that splits criminal trials between the District Courts as evenly as possible, set without regard to the court in which the case was originally filed, and preferential settings are at the sole discretion of the presiding judge. 1.2 Jury Dockets for Civil Cases: civil cases are set for trial in the District Court where the case was originally assigned. 1.3 Case Distribution: the District Clerk files cases by distributing them based on the agreements between the District Courts. 1.4 Local Administrative Judge: by majority vote the judges of the District Courts of Colorado, Gonzales and Lavaca County elect their Local Administrative Judge for a two-year term. 1.5 Court Administrator and 1.6 Court Calendars: all dockets are administered by the Court Administrator, who develops a court calendar designating jury weeks and non-jury days posted on each County web page.
